Doodling about town
So very recently whilst Pandora was enjoying herself in Miama. I actually didn’t mind because I was honoured to meet, the gorgeous and wonderful Megan Hess!
Babe i am gutted i wasn’t there I know how much you aspire to her, i thought of you whilst enjoying my Piña Colada in Soho House Miami!
I am sure you did…
Megan is one of my all time favourite and most inspiring fashion illustrators. Her work really is amazing with clients such as Chanel, Prada, Tiffany & co, Dior, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and may I go on and on I can only dream of. One of her illustrations that stands out, is for Candace Bushnell’s ‘Sexy and City’ book cover back in 2008. This is when Megan got her big break in becoming one of the best and well known fashion illustrators today. If you would like to know more there is a amazing article by Elissa Lawrence
So the day began with a small intimate talk and work shop hosted by Shoreditch house with Megan talking about her career in the fashion illustration world, how she got started and what she had been recently up to before talking about her new book and her love for Coco Chanel. She also told us about the Montblanc pen she uses to draw all of her illustrations and how it is made specifically for her which was very interesting. She goes on to talk about the kind of briefs she gets and how many she is working on at once. Megan also spoke about her process too and i was so fascinated and also found very encouraging that the techniques which she uses is so similar to mine.
It’s so good to know that your doing something right not that there is a right or wrong way with art or illustration but if i am doing what Megan’s doing i must be good. It was very up lifting.
We want on to do a illustration work shop where we drew the Chanel No.5 bottle using watercolours, charcoals and inks. it was a lot fun and great taking advice and tips from Megan.
The next stop was the UK Book launch party for Megan’s new book ‘Coco Chanel the illustrated world of a fashion icon’ hosted at the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour
The launch was well put on displaying floor to ceiling illustrations by Magen the Design Centre had even had Coco cake pops! Megan gave a lovely speech about how she was inspired by Coco Chanel. The book really is stunning, published by Hardie Grant. It takes you on a illustrated journey about Coco’s life highlighted by Megan’s gorgeous illustrations. Of course i had to get a signed copy! I 100% recommend the book its just a beautiful tribute to one of fashions iconic designers.
